There is a shed load of continuous live coding activity coming up in the UK, in part thanks to support from the Sound and Music composer/curator programme.
30th June-4th July 2014 – The New Interfaces for Musical Expression conference is in Goldsmiths London this year, and for a conference more traditionally about physical interfaces, has a lot of live coding in the schedule. Papers on the perception of liveness in laptop performance, Communication, Control, and State Sharing in Collaborative Live Coding, and posters on Algorave, Quick Live Coding in the Browser, Collaborative Live-Coding with an Immersive Instrument. Then an Algorave with live coding from FIRE, Canute, Renick Bell and Charlie Roberts. There are probably more things that my naive search has missed..
4th-6th July 2014 – The Live Coding and the Body symposium in the University of Sussex, starting with the first Brighton Algorave on the evening of the 4th, and then a 1.5 day symposium exploring embodiment, controllerism, choreography, live art, perception, deafness, and more.. This is really going to expand our ideas of what live coding is about.
Then no rest up, for a full-on Algorave tour of the North of England, organised by Ash Sagar, Adam Denton and myself, and featuring visitors from Mexico, Japan and Canada. We did the Gateshead Algorave a few weeks back, and now it’s time for..
6th July – Audacious Art Experiment, Sheffield
7th July – Enjoy Arts Space, Leeds
8th July – Deaf institute, Manchester (details tba)
9th July – Woolpack Inn, York
Then sleep..
